Las Vegas travel: The entertainment capital of the world – Part 2
For years, Las Vegas has been associated with gambling, but even if you decide not to take a chance on Lady Luck, there is plenty to make you travel to the entertainment capital of the world; casinos, shopping, hotels, shows and famous locales such as Fremont Street shoots to name but a few.
Many travel agents offer a Las Vegas travel package including flights, accommodation and tickets to shows. These packages are a great idea for a first visit to Las Vegas or if unsure what to do when you get there.
Getting to Sin City, and Las Vegas air travel, is incredibly convenient. McCarran airport is located on the Strip (Las Vegas boulevard), almost facing the Mandalay Bay hotel. Flights from LAX take under an hour. A taxi from the airport to hotels on the Strip will cost under $15 and you will be at your hotel in mere minutes. A cheaper, but slower way for Las Vegas travel is the shuttle bus from the airport. Also worth mentioning as Las Vegas discount travel and a great way to see the Strip on a budget is the bus that runs from the South end of the Strip to Fremont Street the oldest part of Las Vegas. The bus passes all the major hotels on the Strip and is a good way to see the sights while escaping from the desert sun and soaking up the air conditioning!
Once you have exhausted the delights of Cirque Du Soleil shows, breathtaking hotels and casinos and shopped until you have dropped in the many casino malls, a trip to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam may appeal. Many kiosks along the Strip offer Grand Canyon and Las Vegas travel deals which range from helicopter to bus tours and in price from the modest to the extravagant.
Of course Las Vegas wouldn’t be Sin City without gambling. The casino floors are well worth a look as they are beautifully designed and crafted. The casinos are dark and noisy, but also great fun even if just for the slot machines and the delighted shrieks of the winners!
Someone once said that New York is the “city that never sleeps”, if that is the case, then Las Vegas must be the city with insomnia; shows run at 10pm, restaurants and bars stay open late, and there is always something happening on (and off) the Strip.
Top five tourist attractions in the USA – Part 39

Tourism will always be around, because people will always seek the joy of discovery. It’s tough to say which USA tourist attractions are the best, as they are as numerous and eclectic as Americans themselves. Whether you’re from the United States or another country, take a peek at this short list of great American locations.
#1 – “The Strip, Las Vegas, Nevada
The various hotels of Las Vegas Boulevard, otherwise know as The Strip, collectively offer a 4.5-mile haven for those who love glamour, food, shopping, live entertainment, and of course, casinos. “America’s Playground” is constantly rebuilding itself (literally) and striving for top-notch guest satisfaction. Not only do the big-name restaurants offer hip atmosphere and flavorful cuisine, but the hotels are built for more interactivity with casinos, pools, and shopping.
#2 – “Walt Disney World Resorts, Orlando, Florida
True Disney fans go to Disney World and blissfully lose themselves in the magic of lights, sounds, and stories, both new and old. For the older folks, nostalgia plays a big part in the fun, while the kids get to meet and greet larger-than-life versions of their favorite characters. Everyone can enjoy rides, scenery, movies, animals, parades, and other delights created by the inspired team of Disney Imagineers, proving that “The Mouse House” is an experience to remember.
#3 – Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Maine
Acadia National Park is a beautiful, natural setting, far from the urban environment of humanity. You can take a guided bus tour or drive yourself along the winding roads. Hardy souls can trek to the summit of Cadillac Mountain before dawn to witness the rising sun strike its first piece of the U.S. If mountains and forests aren’t your deal, the charming shops of Bar Harbor are perfect for a weekend visit. Don’t forget to stop by Geddy’s Pub just look for the moose on the roof.
#4 – “National Mall, Washington, D.C.
For those who prefer more traditional or historical destinations, The National Mall is your answer. Once you arrive downtown, you should remember only three words that will easily get you through the day: Smithsonian, monuments, and free. The Smithsonian Institution’s collection of 19 museums is the largest in the world, and seven of D.C.’s monuments reside here, including the Lincoln, Jefferson, and WWII memorials. All offer free admission.
#5 – “San Diego Zoo, San Diego, California
Want to see creatures that you’ve only seen in children’s books or on Animal Planet? The Zoological Society of San Diego includes their famous 100-acre Zoo, the 1,800-acre Wild Animal Park, and the Conservation Research Center. Zoo visitors can see and learn about animals, insects, and plants from all over the earth, and partake in opportunities such as volunteering and adoption.
There are plenty more attractions, and all you need is the time, funds, and wherewithal to seek them out. Although this author highly recommends these spots, you may find other U.S. sites that “speak” to you with even greater passion. Happy traveling!
