It would take several weeks to visit all the amazing attractions New York City has to offer, but most likely your time is far more limited. If you have at least seven days, you should be able to at least squeeze in quite a few of the more famous and most visited New York City attractions.

It’s pretty hard to visit New York City without stopping by the Empire State Building, so why not make it your first stop? There’s a reason why it’s on top of everyone’s list and don’t feel you are just being a typical tourist. The view of the city from the observation floor is simply spectacular and should not be missed. While you are up there it would be fun to think of all the famous movies that included the Empire State Building in the background. King Kong is the first one to come to mind.

The best view of the Statue of Liberty is from the river, so with a bit of planning you can enjoy two famous New York attractions at the same time. Take a cruise on the free Staten Island Ferry and enjoy a perfect view of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan Skyline from the middle of the Hudson River.

Of course no visit to New York is complete without spending a day in Central Park. It’s not just the park itself you will enjoy, but also the world famous Central Park Zoo and the New York Museum can all be included in the same visit. The New York Museum is also free, but donations are suggested and appreciated. The museum will give you a glimpse into the past of New York when people from all over the world sailed up the Hudson, and past the Statue of Liberty to begin a new life.

If possible, try and spend at least one day visiting Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, and Sak’s. Even if the prices are far more than you would ever pay at a few of these famous shopping destinations, it’s well worth taking the time to do some incredible window shopping. If it happens to be year-end, you may even find some pretty good deals. At the very least, be sure to pick up some reasonably priced souvenirs that are ideal as reminders of your visit to The Big Apple.

Sooner or later, you are going to be pretty hungry. Don’t forget that New York City is home of the famous pizza pies, and although you can find the most amazing pizza you have ever tasted at several different locations, be sure to hunt down one of the four “Ray’s Pizza” franchises. If the local New Yorker’s swear by Ray’s, then you just know it has to be worth trying.

When it comes to New York city, it seems that all prices seem to be inflated at least $100…I’m talking food, entertainment, and yes, accommodations. Still, if you keep a few things in mind you will be able to find a decent hotel in a decent area for a semi-affordable price. The first thing that you must understand is that you are probably going to have to acquaint yourself with the “mass transit” and “taxi” system in the city, as you will not be able to stay within walking distance to most of the great “sights” in New York City for less than $250 a night. The following are some hotels, that will not break you pocketbook wide open:

TIME SQUARE

“Red Roof Inn”…budget at it’s best in New York City! This hotel is decently appointed and fairly comfortable (my cousins stayed here last year). If you’re not into “flashy” accommodations and are mainly concerned with price, this is the place for you. This hotel is located only 6 miles from Times Square…only good taxi ride away. You can stay here for $90 to $120 per night.

“St. James Hotel” is located one block from Times Square and 14 blocks from Central Park. This hotel is not only a little on the old side, but the guest rooms are quite small. While this hotel is completely smoke free, and there is complimentary wireless Internet access, this hotel only receives a one and a half star rating, so you won’t be staying in the “Ritz” but you will be getting a safe and fairly comfortable room for $190 to $250 per night (the cheapest in the area).

“New York Inn” is definitely a “budget friendly” New York hotel, meaning that the rooms aren’t spacious, very well appointed or comfortable, but they are safe and clean. This hotel is located one block from Times Square and 6 blocks from Central Park. Prices are reasonable at $200 to $220 per night.

A FEW OTHER HOTELS THAT ARE CENTRALLY LOCATED WITHIN A TAXI RIDE OF MOST SIGHTS

“Fort Place Bed and Breakfast” is located 2 blocks from the Staten Island Ferry in a beautiful historic district. This house was built in 1864 and the styling and attention to detail is delightful. While the rooms are a little smaller, in true B&B style, the comfort is there, with a refrigerator on each floor for guest use and a complimentary continental breakfast each morning. Prices range from $120 to $150

The “Atlantic Inn” is located within 10 miles of Manhattan, Wall Street, Central Park and the Statue of Liberty. This hotel is actually very centrally located and comfortable.

If the world would have one single capital, New York City would be it! From limousines, fancy restaurants and luxury to cheap tourist attractions and street culture. New York City has it all, and for the average traveler it’s a place you mustn’t miss. Here are the 6 most compelling reasons to add New York City to your list of places to see before you die:

1. The atmosphere

While New York City is an enormous place the entire metropolis can be summed up with one word: atmosphere! Just taking a walk through the streets of Manhattan is an experience in itself, strong enough to be the most convincing argument of them all to visit NYC. Depending on your style and preferences there are also plenty of unique atmosphere-generating parts of the city to visit from the center of Manhattan to Queens and Brooklyn.

Additionally, Manhattan, which is the center of tourism in New York, offers various atmospheres ranging from Harlem and Chinatown to the finance district and Central Park, the latter in which you’ll experience nature in the middle of a gigantic city what can beat that extraordinary combination?

2. Cross culture

Second on the list we have the fact that NYC is a gather point of cultures from all around the world. People from everywhere come to visit New York, and among the people living there you can be sure to find someone sharing your religion, origins or predilections. It’s a place for everyone!

3. Sightseeing

NYC has plenty of attractions for the average tourist to see. Visit the Statue of Liberty, experience the skyscrapers and view the city from above from Empire State Building. Central Park, Time Square and Ground Zero are some additional must-see sights.

4. Entertainment

NYC is the place for shows and entertainment. Broadway has a vast selection of shows and musicals while for the wilder visitor clubs, festivals and exhibitions exist in endless variations. Anyone can easily find something of interest.

5. Shopping

Fifth on the list is shopping. In NYC there’s everything from Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s, the latter also known as the world’s largest store, to smaller but specialized shops for the less mainstream aspects of life.

6. Food

Last on the list of reasons to visit NYC is the food. For the average tourist there are plenty of cheap restaurants from Chinese take-away to on-street stands. On the upper scale there are many fancy places to go and restaurant districts for those enjoying the finer aspects of the food chain.

In short, NYC is a city of diversity, a place no soul should miss. Because once again: New York City can be considered the capital of the world there are more reasons to visit the city than there are not to!
